Bio
I am an Associate Professor in the School of Computing and Information Systems, Singapore Management University, where I lead the Visual Understanding and Generation (VUG) Laboratory. Before joining SMU, I was on the faculty of School of Computer Science and Engineering at South China University of Technology. I received the Ph.D. degree from City University of Hong Kong under the supervision of Prof. Rynson W.H. Lau and Prof. Qingxiong Yang in August 2015, and the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in the Faculty of Information Technology from Macau University of Science and Technology, in 2009 and 2011 respectively. From January 2015 to June 2015, I visited the Computational Perception Laboratory at Georgia Institute of Technology, working with Prof. James Regh. Originally, I am from Guangzhou (Canton), a beautiful city in southern China.
My research interests span the fields of computer vision, image/video processing, and generative models. I am a senior member of IEEE and a distinguished member of CCF. I have received several awards, such as the Mark Weiser Best Paper Award in PerCom (2024), Lee Kong Chian Fellowship (2024), Google South Asia & Southeast Asia Research Award (2023), and CCF-Tencent Open Research Fund Excellence Award (2020).
I serve as a lead guest editor of International Journal of Computer Vision (IJCV), the Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology (TCSVT), IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning (TNNLS), Visual Intelligence, and Neurocomputing, and the area chair/senior program committee of ICML, AAAI, IJCAI, BMVC.
